As a little girl I loved to
Fish. I've even seen pictures of me when I was under 5 years of age
fishing. I know for a girl this is unusual, but I can't help it I'm an
unusual girl/women.
But catfish was the only kind of
Fish that I liked to eat growing up. Of course if you know anything about
Fishing, you know you don't usually catch catfish on a rod & reel.
But catching Fish with a rod & reel was one of the best parts of Fishing.
You know though I seemed to have the
worst luck. It seemed like every time I went to Fish my line would get
tangled up. Now I'm not talking just a little tangled. I'm talking
the whole reel came apart & you would have yards of tangled Fishing
line. Of course most of the time my line was still in the water & I
would catch a Fish. So I guess at least I had a little bit of luck, but I
would have to pull the fish in by hand & hope the line didn't cut my hands
up.
Most girls that do like to Fish
won't bait their own hooks or touch the fish to take them off the hook after
catching the Fish. But not me I had no problem with messing with worms,
liver or dead Fish to bait the hooks. I even took the live Fish off the
hooks. Now some of my girl cousin's on the other hand, I was the one that
would bait the hooks for them or take the Fish off the lines.
I'm not really sure why it is that I
like to Fish. Is it the peace & quiet? The getting away from
everyone? Of course I am kind of a quiet person, so maybe it was the
quietness of sitting on the lake or around the pond & not talking. I
could sit like that for hours & not get bored.
So growing up every year for my
birthday, what I always wanted to do was to Fish. So we would take the
boat & go to the lake & Fish. We always put out a trout line to
catch catfish, the night we got the lake. Then the next day we would go
out & Fish for either Bass or Perch. We would use the Perch to bait
the trout lines that night. The first night we would also use liver,
since we get to the lake late on Friday night after my dad got off work &
didn't have the time to catch enough Perch to bait the lines.
I remember going to Grandma's &
Grandpa's looking for worms & then going Fishing in their pond. Most
of the time I went by myself, but every once in awhile I could talk Grandpa
into going Fishing with me. Of course Fishing in Grandpa's pong was catch
& release, but that was fine with me. It was the Fishing part that I
loved, his pond really only had Perch in it any way’s. That kind of Fish
just isn't good to eat or at least that's what I was always told. Never
tried eating them, so I guess I don't know for sure.
My husband & I went to Fish
while we where dating. But this was more of an excuse to spend the early
morning hours & all day together, than it was to actually catch Fish.
We did however later after getting
married & having a son, take him to Fish at a friend’s very large
pond/lake. Well lake is what they called it, but it was a very large
pond. LOL So we took the BBQ grill & Fishing pools & was having a
Great time with other member of the family as well. Then our son backed
into the BBQ grill & burnt his leg. He was only around 4 or 5 &
we didn't really have anything to put on the burn. So I think this
experience ruined him on Fish. Cause even though he was having fun, he
has never really wanted to Fish again. He's 13 now & still is not
interested.
If you have a girl that loves to
Fish. Don't take that away from her, it could be some of her best
memories when she gets older. If you have a son that doesn't like to Fish,
don't force him to do it. Those will be some of his worst memories when
he gets older.
